Northwest Louisiana Technical Community College (NLTCC) recently completed its Fall 2025 Instructor Preparation Series, a professional development initiative created to support new full-time and adjunct faculty. The series helps instructors transition from industry to the classroom by focusing on effective teaching methods, college procedures, and student engagement strategies. Eight instructors participated in the Fall 2025 cohort, and five instructors are currently taking part in the Spring 2026 series.
The series was led by Dr. Alyson McCoy, Associate Vice Chancellor of Academics and Institutional Effectiveness, with Calie Dison, Librarian, and Alena Harris, Education and Workforce Director, serving as collaborative partners. Departmental deans also played an active role in guiding the content and providing support throughout the program.
Chancellor Dr. Jayda Spillers shared her appreciation for the program’s impact, stating, “This series reflects our commitment to strong teaching and a supportive learning environment. Many of our instructors come from non-educational backgrounds, so it is essential that our college invests in their growth to help them become the best instructors possible. This investment ensures their longevity and strengthens our entire college community. Our instructors play a vital role in student success, and supporting their development benefits everyone.”
“The Instructor Preparation Series has been both professionally and personally rewarding,” Dr. McCoy added. “Through this initiative, we have strengthened leadership capacity not just among faculty, but across our broader team. It has been encouraging to see instructors become more prepared and confident as they transition from industry roles to the classroom.”
The Instructor Preparation Series includes seven interactive sessions covering college policies, lesson planning, student engagement, and instructional technology. Each session builds on the last, combining practical guidance with opportunities for collaboration and reflection. Instructors also participate in a “WIN” session, short for “Whatever I Need,” which offers personalized support based on feedback and individual goals.
Through this ongoing initiative, NLTCC continues to demonstrate its commitment to instructional excellence, ensuring that faculty members are well-prepared to guide students toward success in the classroom and beyond.
