Northwest Louisiana Technical Community College is proud to recognize two nursing students as recipients of the inaugural Melba Hennigan Memorial Nursing Scholarship, which awarded a total of $10,000 for the Spring 2026 semester.
Established in memory of longtime registered nurse Melba Hennigan, the scholarship honors a career that spanned more than 50 years. Hennigan served many of those years at Minden Medical Center in Labor and Delivery, where she became known for her strong work ethic and commitment to excellence. She also served patients at Cornerstone Rehab in Bossier City. Throughout her career, she was remembered as tough, funny, and dedicated to doing things the right way.
Her influence extended into her own family, where she encouraged and helped support multiple children and grandchildren to pursue careers in nursing, including advanced practice roles. Through this scholarship, her family seeks to continue her legacy of skill, integrity, and compassion in the profession she loved.

The Spring 2026 recipients are Kayla Chandler and Seth Lowe.

Chandler expressed her appreciation for the support, saying, “I am beyond grateful for the scholarship. Thank you for believing in my potential and investing in my education. I look forward to helping others as you have helped me.”
Lowe also shared his gratitude for the opportunity. “Thank you so much for awarding me this scholarship. I am incredibly grateful as this will relieve financial and mental stress. This encourages and helps me to continue being a light and advocate for people’s health.”
NLTCC extends its sincere thanks to the family of Melba Hennigan for honoring her legacy by supporting students who embody the same dedication and integrity that defined her career.
