NLTCC Introduces Virtual Reality Training for HVAC Students

Northwest Louisiana Technical Community College is continuing to bring new technology into the classroom with the addition of virtual reality training for students in the HVAC program.

With VR headsets, students work through real-world service scenarios and perform the same tasks required on the job. In each simulation, they take on the role of a technician, using tools such as digital meters, gas pressure gauges, and combustion analyzers in a fully interactive environment.

“This gives us a more immersive look at what we’ll actually encounter in the field,” said Braylon Davis, an HVAC student at NLTCC. “It puts us in the technician’s point of view and helps us build confidence before we ever step onto a real job site.”

The new technology is a valuable addition to the training students receive in the lab, said HVAC instructor Michael Skyles.

“Safety and hands-on training are at the core of our program,” said Skyles. “Virtual reality builds on that by giving students more opportunities to practice and apply what they’ve learned. It helps them think critically and build those skills through repetition.”
