Northwest Louisiana Technical Community College is proud to celebrate the graduation of the first cohort of students from its Emergency Medical Responder and Firefighter program. The program, hosted through the college’s Minden Campus, provides high school students with hands-on-training and industry-recognized certifications that prepare them for careers in emergency response and public service.
The program serves students from Webster, Bienville, and Claiborne parishes, offering a unique opportunity for students to begin career training while still in high school.
“It was a really enjoyable experience for me,” said instructor Jeff Franklin. “I’ve been an educator all my life, and getting to work again with prospective firefighters was quite refreshing. They were a good group, we had a good time, and we’re excited to see where this program will go. It’s very unique and really the only one of its kind in the state.”

Chief Johnny Ogden emphasized the impact the partnership is already making on the region and the future of the fire service.
“This partnership with Northwest Louisiana Technical Community College is creating meaningful opportunities for both high school students and adults who want to serve their communities through the fire service. By expanding access to firefighter training, we are helping develop the next generation of firefighters while also supporting volunteer departments with well-trained personnel.”
