Bossier City, LA - On the evening of May 10th, 2023, Northwest Louisiana Technical Community College (NLTCC) held its spring commencement ceremony at the Bossier Civic Center, where 143 bright graduates marked a significant milestone in their educational journeys. The event was filled with joy and pride as families, faculty, and distinguished guests gathered to celebrate the students' accomplishments.
The commencement ceremony was attended by Mayor Tom Arceneaux of Shreveport, who delivered an inspiring speech to the graduating class. As a respected and influential leader in the community, Mayor Arceneaux brought words of inspiration and encouragement. He emphasized the importance of education and encouraged the graduates to pursue their dreams with determination and passion.
Tari Bradford, a member of the board of supervisors for LCTCS (Louisiana Community and Technical College System), was also in attendance. Her presence symbolized the college's strong connection and support from the wider educational community.
The night was a significant milestone for Dr. Jayda Spillers, as it marked her inaugural commencement ceremony as NLTCC's new chancellor. Dr. Spillers, who took on the position earlier this year, expressed her excitement and praised the graduates for their impressive achievements. She emphasized the college's commitment to providing quality education and empowering students to succeed in high wage, high demand jobs.
The commencement ceremony included a heartfelt rendition of the national anthem, sung by Jacques Brooks, the Practical Nursing Program Coordinator at NLTCC, as well as an inspirational speech from Shatorey Coleman, the SGA (Student Government Association) President from NLTCC's Shreveport campus.
During the Graduate Honors segment, Vice Chancellor of Finance and Administration, Melanie Sotak, recognized exceptional graduates for their outstanding academic achievements.
The Awarding and Conferring of Diplomas followed. Stacy Shepherd, Registrar; Dr. Jayda Spillers; and Renee Sears, Vice Chancellor of Academics, Student Affairs & Workforce, handed out the well-deserved diplomas.
