Northwest Louisiana Technical Community College (NLTCC) is proud to announce a significant expansion of its academic offerings with the introduction of the Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Technical Studies degree, available to students across all technical programs beginning Spring 2027.
The new degree gives students the opportunity to take their technical education even further, combining hands-on training with the academic coursework needed to earn an associate degree. In addition to preparing students for high-demand careers, the AAS in Technical Studies opens new opportunities for academic advancement, including the potential to continue their education at four-year universities.
"This is an exciting achievement for NLTCC and a tremendous opportunity for our students," said NLTCC Chancellor Dr. Jayda Spillers. "Our students work hard to develop the skills needed to succeed in their chosen fields, and now they have another way to build on that hard work. We are proud to offer this next level of education and give our students even more opportunities to achieve their career goals."
The expansion comes as Louisiana continues to see a growing demand for skilled workers. According to employment projections from the Louisiana Workforce Commission, jobs for industrial machinery mechanics are expected to grow by 15% between 2024 and 2034, while employment for electricians is projected to increase by 10%. By offering additional degree opportunities in career-focused programs, NLTCC is helping develop a highly skilled workforce prepared to meet the needs of Louisiana's growing industries.
Registration for the Spring 2027 semester is now open, with classes beginning Tuesday, January 19th. With this exciting new degree option available, there has never been a better time to begin your education at NLTCC!
